Gold Country Wildlife Rescue
Auburn, CA
California’s only multi-species wildlife rescue facility needed an advanced wastewater solution for their new 15-acre property — one worthy of the work they do and the animals in their care.
Gold Country Wildlife Rescue is California’s only licensed multi-species wildlife rescue and rehabilitation facility — caring for everything from raptors and songbirds to deer, foxes, and bobcats. Operating from a new 15-acre property in the Auburn foothills of Placer County, the facility serves the entire greater Sacramento region and handles thousands of animals each year.
When they moved to the new property, they needed a septic system that could handle the unique wastewater demands of a working wildlife rescue — staff facilities, animal care areas, and a facility designed to grow with the organization’s mission.
The Auburn foothills present classic Placer County challenges — rocky soil, variable slope, and limited flat usable area. The property had no existing wastewater infrastructure, and the system needed to be designed for a non-residential use with higher-than-typical daily flows and a site that needed to accommodate future facility expansion.
For an organization operating on a non-profit mission with sensitive animals and environmental stewardship as core values, the system also needed to reflect those values — treating wastewater to the highest available standard before returning it to the soil.
Superior On-Site Solutions designed and installed a Hoot H-600 BNR advanced aerobic treatment system with Geoflow subsurface drip dispersal. The compact single-tank design was well-suited to the site’s terrain — requiring minimal excavation on the challenging foothills property while delivering the high-quality effluent the organization needed.
The Geoflow drip dispersal system routes treated effluent through underground tubing across the available dispersal area, protecting the property’s native landscaping and groundwater while quietly supporting the vegetation the facility relies on for animal habitats and natural surroundings.
A fully permitted, high-performance wastewater system installed on one of Northern California’s most meaningful properties. Gold Country Wildlife Rescue now operates with the infrastructure to support their growing mission — and a system that treats the water leaving their property as carefully as they treat the animals in their care. Superior On-Site Solutions is proud to be their authorized O&M provider for the life of the system.

The Hoot Septic System Advantage for Auburn Properties
Placer County is one of our core service areas and home to some of California’s most technically challenging septic installations. Rocky granite, variable soil depths, steep slopes, and sensitive watershed zones are all conditions we’ve navigated successfully across dozens of Placer County installations — including the very first Hoot system ever installed in California, right here in the Placer County foothills in 2007.
If you’re working on a project in Placer County — residential, commercial, or non-profit — we have the regulatory knowledge, field experience, and technical expertise to get it right. Call us at 916-436-8457 or visit our Ophir case study to see what’s possible even on solid rock.
